In the beginning I’m very confused in what to use for my dogs since there vast amount products scattered around both online and offline.  Plastic  or  Wire  Crates? I have found out that the answer to this problem really relies on you. The below article is just an overview in the pros and cons of both crates. Which is Better Plastic or Wire?

There are numerous large dog crates on the market today however most of these kennels falls in to types: plastic or wire.  Most of us dog owner ask this question: which is better of the two? In my experience I started Creamy with a plastic dog crate and eventually a wire dog crate. I can say that Creamy is pretty satisfied with his homes.

Through the years we have used both plastic and wire crates for various reasons. Creamy really loves to go outside and when he does we setup a wire crate for him in the porch. In travelling we prefer to use plastic crates since quite light and portable compared to wire counterparts.

In here I will list both advantages and disadvantages of both wire and plastic large dog crates.

Advantages of Large Wire Dog Crates:

    * They can see what is around them, making them more comfortable especially when travelling.

    * Good ventilation

    * Easy to collapse and fold ideal for storage

    * Most of them offer divider meaning that you can use this crate from puppyhood up till dog hood.

 

Disadvantages of Large Wire Dog Crates:

    * Free viewing outside can cause them to whine or bark as they relate themselves on what is happening outside

    * Not airline approved

    * Not properly insulated not good for cold weathers

    * Heavier than plastic crates

 

Advantages of Large Plastic Dog Crates:

    * Most of them are airline approved

    * Provide better insulation ideal for cold weathers

    * Quite close offering privacy thus avoiding the whining and barking of your buddy

    * Lighter than wire crates

 

Disadvantages of plastic dog crates:

    * Plastic can cause smelly odors over time and worse it is hard to remove.

    * Harder to clean compared to wire crates

    * Cannot be folded, not ideal for storage.

    * Lesser ventilation compared to wire crates
